LBNL powertrain research was recently presented at a meeting of the Electric Vehicle Initiative (EVI) of the Clean Energy Ministerial. LBNL's research in this area has shown the significant energy savings potential that exists from deploying well designed hybrid and electric vehicles in rapidly growing nations, like India. The research has also developed systematic methods to characterize fuel savings mechanisms to guide the optimal design of vehicles for rapidly growing countries.

As LBNL's research in this area continues to grow, our latest efforts have focused on understanding the grid impacts and opportunities from integrating larger numbers of electric vehicles on the electricity grid of developing countries. For instance, the energy consumption of different sizes of electric vehicles in Indian driving conditions was the focus of a recently published article, and the LBNL V2G-Sim model is being applied to understand grid impacts from EVs deployed in India.
